Koala Regulations and final mapping now in effect

Koala Regulations in QLDChanges to the koala regulations are now in full effect as the Queensland Government aims to provide increased protection to koala habitat areas.

Changes to the regulations and legislation have been made to the Environmental Offsets Regulation 2014, Nature Conservation (Koala) Conservation Plan 2017, Planning Regulation 2017 and Vegetation Management Regulation. These changes are effective as of 7 February 2019.

These amendments are accompanied by the Koala Sensitive Design Guidelines which has been developed to “determine appropriate measures to help avoid and minimise the impact of development and land-use planning on koala populations”.

If you have koala habitat areas mapped on your property, development may prohibited, assessable by State or local governments or exempt for assessment. Contact Arnold Development Consultants for more information about how these changes may impact your property or development.
