Laser Land Scanning

Laser Land Scanning Services in Queensland

At Arnold Development Consultants, we use the latest technology that will save you time, money and effort while minimising any chance of errors. Our 3D laser scanning services can highlight the differences between your existing model and new model, reduce the number of people involved in the process, and quickly offer results.

The information that comes from up-to-date survey data is invaluable and useful throughout the life of the project, paying itself off by reducing reworks, variations, clashes and staff downtime.

Further benefits of our 3D laser scanning services include:

  • Advanced warning of interference and clash detection
  • Laser scanning lends itself to site capture during normal operation, which can be done pre-shutdown in order to provide the information needed by maintenance personnel before it is really needed.
  • Ultra-fast acquisition rates (1 million points/sec)
  • High accuracy 1mm to 6mm
  • Remote inspection
  • Site installation is completed without issue

Choosing Laser Scanning Over Traditional Methods

Laser scanning reduces imposed safety controls and improves project timeline and cost factors. This method delivers fast, safe, accurate and cost-effective results, especially when measuring complex areas like plant environments.

When plans of an object or structure are not reliable or available, laser scanning removes the need to physically climb, reach, or expose our surveyors to unsafe environments in order to measure the items of interest.

Laser scanning is great for:

  • Engineering and construction
  • Infrastructure, long-range & mining
  • Roads and rail infrastructure
  • Engineering, plant, construction projects
  • Feature surveying and asset mapping
  • Heritage
  • Deformation and analysis surveys
  • Scan to BIM
  • Mining deformation analysis
  • Stockpile auditing
  • Hazardous environments
  • Plant and processing
  • Conversion of existing conditions point clouds into usable BIM elements
  • Capable of delivering in Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and proprietary formats (Revit by Autodesk, AecoSIM by Bentley)
  • Navisworks (by Autodesk) deliverables allow for software-free inspection and clash detection for advanced users and is used primarily in construction industries to complement 3D design packages (such as Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and MicroStation) Navisworks allows users to open and combine 3D models, navigate around them in real-time and review the model using a set of tools including comments, redlining, viewpoint, and measurements.

HDR Imagery

HDR (High Dynamic Range) imagery can be used to capture any kind of scene in almost any lighting condition. This imagery can be used to produce 3D textured meshes using photogrammetry techniques as well as provide high-quality colourised laser scan data.

Using specialist software, the HDR panoramic imagery can also provide a virtual asset management database with the ability to supplement maintenance documentation, specifications and schedules. Other deliverables include virtual reality tours, rectified imagery and image files in HDR/EXR formats.

Using HDR Imagery

The output from our scanners can be imported into a number of 3D CAD software packages for the creation of 3D models. Webscene (ArcGIS by Esri) also allows for the viewing and measuring of any site from the convenience of a workstation.

The free software allows for jumping between scan stations (similar to moving in Google Street view) around the site and removes the need for most people to visit the site for measurement purposes.

How Can Arnold Development Consultants Help You?

Many projects around Australia can benefit from our 3D laser scanning services. We specialise in the following but don’t hesitate to contact us if you wish to discuss a unique project.

Architectural Heritage

Often, heritage projects are heavily reliant on old, outdated plans that do not reflect what was built. Using laser scanning, we can rapidly, discreetly and safely capture the existing conditions of the site and provide you with 3D models, CAD plans and digital records for construction, auditing or tie-in services.

Furthermore, our ability to deliver existing conditions data efficiently and effectively from our data archives means we can show you any change in the structure over time. Laser scanning gives you the flexibility and confidence that your project will preserve and maintain historically significant components of the project, without impacting on your construction or project workflow.

Design

A large portion of redevelopment projects try and spend as little money during the design phase on existing conditions information, to the detriment of the rest of the project. Using laser scanning, we capture the existing conditions of the site and provide you with 3D models, CAD plans and digital records for contract and design works, minimising variation claims and time spent on-site waiting for the survey.

Modelling & Visualisation

With 3D modelling technology, you can:

  • Improve on project efficiency through the best use of skills
  • Avoid costly downtime caused by components not fitting
  • Mitigate clash detection by testing between the existing structure and new design components
  • Our efficient team of local modelling specialists use the latest skills, software and customised automated extraction methods to deliver your project on-time and within budget
